The Best ChatGPT Prompts to Find a Cheap Flight

If you know you want to go somewhere, but you aren’t sure where, and you really are just looking for the most affordable place to go, try these prompts:

I used the first prompt, and put in Boston as my home airport, for travel in June and ChatGPT gave me back these:

If you are planning a multi-city trip, ChatGPT can be super helpful in figuring out the best way to plan your trip.

What is the cheapest way to visit [Destination 1], [Destination 2], and [Destination 3]?”

I used the first prompt and asked for the cheapest way to visit Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam. Not only did ChatGPT suggest different flights, but it also gave me a 10-day itinerary between those three cities. On top of the itineraries, it gave me a budget per person. Information I didn’t ask for, but comes in super handy.

While we think we give you the best advice and booking strategies, we certainly can’t keep up in real time like ChatGPT can. Here are some prompts for booking strategies:

How far in advance should I book flights to [Destination] for the lowest price?

Can you suggest tips to avoid price hikes when booking flights?

Find me a fare using airfarewatchdog.com from [Your City] to [Destination] anytime, the cheapest flight.

While these prompts should help you find the best airfare, there are things to keep in mind whenever you use ChatGPT.

The more specific you are, the better. Give ChatGPT as much information as you can. When I started looking for flights using ChatGPT, I didn’t specify round-trip, so it gave me one-way fares. Specify Round-trip when you book and say you want nonstop or one stop or less. You can even specify what airlines to include (or NOT include).

With that in mind, if you don’t find exactly what you are looking for, tell ChatGPT it was helpful, but add more information. I used this prompt: “Find a fare from Boston to Paris, any departure date in the next 3 months, 5-10 days, which is super flexible. Please search live fares.”ChatGPT gave me some great fares, but didn’t specify the dates, so I asked for the dates to be included. It then gave me a table with the airlines, dates, route, price, and specific notes about the fare (stop, nonstop, etc).

If ChatGPT gives you a fare and you can’t find it when you look for it, ask where it was found. It might tell you it was a mistake, but it might send you to a site you weren’t aware of.
